6-Week Program:
Introduction to Clay & Wheel-Throwing

This comprehensive six-week program introduces new pottery students to the basics in clay. Private instruction allows for focused attention to adequately lay a foundation for personal development of fundamental skills in clay. The course will cover proper clay preparation, wheel throwing, trimming, and glaze application. Upon class orientation, Katherine will work with the student to further tailor the structured syllabus and fulfill their individual needs and desires. You can expect to fully complete between 7 and 10 unique handmade pieces and gain a firm understanding of the fundamentals of the ceramic process.

6 Week Program:
Intermediate Wheel
Intensive Focus on Line & Form

This comprehensive six-week program expands upon students’ previous experience in clay and focuses on acute detail to line and form. One on-one private instruction allows Katherine to tailor the course to fit each student’s needs as they refine their throwing skills and explore their personal aesthetic. In this course, students will learn to use tools to their full potential to shape each piece and begin to see visual proportion. Because this course is focused on students’ attention to detail, it is required that students have basic knowledge in clay, i.e. ability to center efficiently and with ease, an understanding of basic pottery terminology, the ability to create multiple cylinders with consistency in height, evenness of walls and base, and basic knowledge of tool usage.

Upon class orientation, Katherine will contact the student to further tailor the structured syllabus and fulfill their individual needs and desires. Students can expect to fully complete several unique handmade pieces and gain an in-depth understanding of the relationship between line and form.

6 Week Program:
Advanced Wheel
Developing Personal Aesthetic and Form

This comprehensive six-week program refines students’ existing technical skills in clay to develop their aesthetic and vision into a tangible body of work. One-on-one private instruction is offered, tailored to fit the student’s needs to refine their throwing skills and to mature their personal aesthetic. Because this course is focused on students’ attention to detail, students are required to have a solid understanding of the ceramic process (i.e. the ability to center 2+ lbs with ease, maintain consistency within their forms, and effectively trim work).

Upon class orientation, Katherine will contact the student to further tailor the structured syllabus to fulfill their individual needs and desires. Students can expect to begin developing their own unique aesthetic through a deep consideration of self and personal inspiration.
